Bellwood continues to develop and implement programs and services that are supported by research as being effective in achieving abstinence and other desired outcomes. Below are some examples of Bellwood’s scientifically based treatment approaches identified as Substance Abuse Treatment Best Practices by Health Canada (1999).
Holistic treatment approach: Bellwood’s treatment programs are designed to address the multiple needs of the individual and not just the substance abuse or behaviour problem.
Client-centred treatment planning: We offer flexible treatment options including detox, inpatient and outpatient care, and individual therapy.
Continuing care and relapse prevention: Professionally facilitated aftercare for a minimum of one year for clients and families.
Participation in 12-Step support programs: Clients and families are introduced to self help meetings.
Pharmacological therapies: Medications that are shown to minimize cravings, promote abstinence and complement behavioural therapies are prescribed on an individual basis.
Stress management: Bellwood provides acupuncture, acupressure, massage therapy, and relaxation techniques.
Family and social systems treatment: We provide education and support programs for families, friends, employers and employee assistance professionals, family physicians and healthcare professionals.
Liaising with community resources: We will connect you with other helpful agencies and services in your community.
Concurrent treatment: Bellwood’s professional team is experienced in working with individuals with co-occurring substance abuse and mental health problems. Our assessment process will determine suitability to our programs on an individual basis.
