Organizational overview

Bellwood Health Services is a long-standing leader in the provision of addiction treatment and education, and is comprised of two divisions: Bellwood Total Health Centre Division, and Bellwood Hospital Division.

The Bellwood Total Health Centre Division provides a variety of treatment programs to the public on a fee-for-service basis, to address the following types of issues/problems: alcohol and drug addiction; problem gambling; eating disorders; sex addiction; concurrent trauma and addiction.

The Bellwood Hospital Division is licensed through the Ontario Private Hospitals Act, and receives funding from the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to provide residential alcohol addiction treatment for Ontario residents.

Bellwood Health Services is a Centre of Excellence and an internationally recognized leader in evidence-based treatment of addiction and mental health problems. Our programs are based on the legacy of Dr. Gordon Bell, a pioneer in addiction medicine whose innovations have paved the way for a better understanding and treatment of addictions and behavioural problems in Canada, and around the world. Through a customized regimen of medical care, support and education, we work with each client to restore their physical, psychological, social, and spiritual balance. Bellwood physicians monitor clients closely to ensure their well-being while nurses are available to provide care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Low relapse rates and a high level of client satisfaction

Our team of caring professionals works closely with our clients and their families to provide counselling and treatment to meet their individual needs. Over 88% of our clients indicated that they were highly satisfied with the treatment services provided by Bellwood. In addition, 96% of Bellwood clients stated that they would recommend our treatment program to others.

A leader in research and education

As a Centre of Excellence, Bellwood leads research and evaluation programs in addiction medicine and mental health care, and provides internships and practicum experiences for university and college students. We engage in ongoing projects to educate communities and increase awareness about addictions, mental health problems, and the services available to those struggling with these challenges.

Accredited with distinction

Accreditation Canada, which assesses health care organizations to ensure compliance with quality standards, describes our results as, "exemplary, with a high level of client satisfaction and low relapse rates compared to other addiction programs." Bellwood Health Services has consistently met Accreditation Canada's high quality standards and rigorous external reviews since 1986. In 1995, we became the first addiction treatment program to be Accredited with Distinction.
